A day after the gang-rape of a girl student on a polytechnic campus in Bardhaman district came to light, the victim’s family members claimed that they were being pressured by the accused not to file a police complaint.
“Threats were also issued to us against going to the police,” the girl’s father told The Hindu over telephone on Saturday. The victim said that she, along with her family, was feeling scared and insecure. “How will I or any other girl go to college after the incident?” she told a local television channel.
On Tuesday, the first-year student was gang-raped allegedly by four persons including the general secretary of the Trinamool Congress’ student wing of the college. The security guard, said to be an accomplice, was arrested after the complaint was filed on Thursday. No fresh arrests were made during the day.
In the police complaint (filed two days after the incident), the girl said she felt dizzy after consuming a drink offered on the premises. She was violated by a group of men who also video-recorded the act, the victim said.
Meanwhile, protests were held in the Rupranayanpur area against the incident.
