A combination of factors, including enmity, is said to be the motive
: The police on Saturday arrested five more persons in the triple murder case of Adhila Banu (28), her daughter Adhira Banu (7) and son Nasrin (5) belonging to Sathankulam near here, whose bodies were found in a tank near Vadipatti in Madurai district about 10 days ago. The three main accused have escaped to Malaysia, according to the police.
Sources said based on confession made by Jeyakumar of Valantharavai, one of the accused, a team headed by Inspectors Ganesan (Kenikarai) and Lakshmanan (Vadipatti) arrested Shagajath, Thamim Ansari, Hussain, Shanawaz and Muniasamy. They belong to Ramanathapuram, Sathankulam and Valantharavai.
It is said that Shahul, Mohamed Asrath and Manikandan, main accused in the case, escaped to Malaysia immediately after committing the murders.
The investigation revealed that the mother and the children were murdered in a sports utility vehicle soon after their abduction on November 8. The bodies were initially buried in a grove owned by Shahul near Uchipuli. Since they feared that the crime would be known to the people around, the accused decided to take the bodies to Kodaikanal for disposal. However, they threw them in a tank, due to bad smell emanating from the bodies.
A combination of factors, including enmity between Shahul and Adhila Banu while they were in Malaysia, a love affair and a murder, is said to be the motive behind the murders.
The police said steps had already been taken to arrest the main accused with the help of Malaysian authorities.
