A major fire broke out in an ammunition depot of the Army at Binnaguri in the Jalpaiguri district on Saturday.

“Two blasts were heard from the godown, where the fire was suspected to have originated from stored chemicals,” fire brigade officials said.

A Defence Ministry spokesperson said in Kolkata that no loss of life or any damage to serviceable ammunition was reported. “The extent of damage, if any, and the cause of the fire is being assessed by a court of inquiry.” — PTI
