In the wake of the Bangladesh Supreme Court awarding the death sentence to an Islamist leader, Abdul Quader Mollah, holding him guilty of atrocities in 1971, India has said it understands the aspiration of the Bangladeshi people for closure and justice. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Syed Akbaruddin, said: “As far as the process is concerned, it is for the Bangladeshi people to decide.”
