IT Department in city seizes an additional Rs. 1 crore from his residence
NEW DELHI: The Income Tax Department on Tuesday seized Rs. three crore from two persons, including a retired IAS officer, at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here. Acting on a tip-off, the Air Intelligence Wing of the IT Department intercepted the duo when they travelled from Hyderabad and landed at the airport, official sources said here.
Opted for VRS
The retired IAS officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre, who had recently opted for VRS, was intercepted along with a businessman friend upon arriving, sources said.
The cash was found in the luggage of the officer and it is being ascertained how they were able to board the flight in Hyderabad with so much money, they added.
Later in the day, the IT Department in Hyderabad also seized an additional Rs. one crore from the residence of the officer after IT sleuths informed their counterparts there, sources said.
Investigations into the origin of the money have been commenced, sources said. Both the persons were on a business trip to the national capital, they added. - PTI
