TUMKUR: Eight persons, including three women and two children, died and four were injured when a sports utility vehicle in which they were travelling hit a stationary lorry on the outskirts of Tumkur on the Bangalore-Pune national highway on Wednesday morning.
They were returning to Pune from Tirupati after a pilgrimage.
The police said that six persons died on the spot and two at the General Hospital in Tumkur.
The police gave the names of the dead as Raghunatha Pantheshwara (50), Prathamesha (19), Dhanoji (25), Revati (35), Reshma (30), Nabhoka Nole (20), Kritika More (6) and Shrutika More (3).
Ramesh Shetgi (30), Kiran Panthalkar (46), Kiran Phanish (35) and Damayanti (40) have been admitted to the General Hospital here.
Doctors at the General Hospital said that Damayanti was shifted to NIMHANS in Bangalore for treatment.
The police have registered a case.
