Eight engineering students of the Banaras Hindu University here have been suspended on charge of ragging, college authorities said on Thursday.
“The university has cancelled the registration of all eight students of semester II in B. Tech branch for the current semester and imposed fine of Rs 5,000 on them,” Rajesh Singh, chairman of PPP cell in the University, said here.
The eight accused had forcibly taken the victim, an electrical engineering student, to a university hostel room and verbally abused him before asking him to take off his clothes, Mr. Singh said.
The victim complained to the college authorities on September 11, following which an internal inquiry was conducted.
The students have been expelled from the hostel and barred from entering the University premises, he said. -- PTI
