A 52-year-old doctor working at Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital has been arrested for allegedly raping a 21-year-old girl at a private clinic in Seelampur in North-East Delhi.
According to the police, the victim – a resident of Rohini – first came in contact with the doctor on May 7.
“The woman was on her way to Nand Nagri in an auto-rickshaw when she suddenly felt pain in her stomach. When the auto-rickshaw reached Usmanpur, she requested the driver to take her to a nearby hospital. She was taken to JPC Hospital in Shastri Park,” said a senior police officer.
At the hospital, she was treated by Narendra Singh, who was holding additional charge of CMO. After treating the patient, Narendra asked her to visit the hospital after two days for a check-up. When she visited the hospital on May 9, she was asked to come again on Tuesday (May 14) on the pretext of a check-up and for tracking the progress of treatment.
Following the doctor’s direction, the victim went for the scheduled check-up on Tuesday. When she reached the hospital, Narendra took her to the nearby Bansal Ultrasound Clinic in Seelampur where he allegedly offered her water laced with sedatives. The woman fell unconscious and when she came back to her senses, she realised that she had been raped, said the police.
The victim then made a call to the Police Control Room. Based on her statement and confirmation of rape by medical examination, a case was registered against Narendra who was arrested a few hours later.
Meanwhile, the police are probing the role of the owner of the ultrasound lab where the crime was committed. The man is reported to be closely associated with Narendra. The police are, however, yet to question him.
