The DMK on Friday night threatened to quit the UPA government unless the U.S.-sponsored resolution on Sri Lanka in the United Nations Human Rights Council was strengthened with a firm demand for an independent international probe into war crimes.

“If this demand is not conceded, I categorically state our continuation in the ministry will be meaningless,” party president M. Karunanidhi said in a statement.

He said the resolution should reflect the demand for an inquiry into the alleged genocide, identification of war criminals and an independent probe against them.
