Cricket lovers are in for a treat with the second cricket Test match between India and New Zealand beginning Friday in the State capital. Hyderabadis would undoubtedly fix their eyes on their city-mate V.V.S. Laxman apart from other stars like Sachin and Dhoni. Laxman would wield the willow in a Test match in front of the cricket-mad home crowd for the first time.
While ticket sales have not been very encouraging with fans appearing to prefer Saturday and Sunday to watch the match, nothing is being left to chance on the security front, what with a newly-formed Telangana Cricket JAC threatening to organise protest against their perceived injustice to players from Telangana region.
More than 1,000 policemen would be guarding the stadium, around which traffic restrictions have already been announced. Commissioner of Cyberabad S. Prabhakar Reddy is camping there to supervise the security arrangements.
The Hyderabadi fan, meanwhile, has come in for handsome praise from the Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The star player said the fans from the twin cities really enjoy the game and always appreciate good cricket. “They don't seem to be too much concerned as to who is doing well. But I feel they always applaud a good performance.”
“I always enjoyed playing here and am quite familiar with the ground too, having played in the IPL and the two one-dayers earlier. And I hope that they will turn up in huge numbers for this Test too,” Dhoni remarked.
“Oh! It is a fantastic feeling to play in such magnificent grounds in the first two Tests. We are really lucky to play at these venues,” were the comments of New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori.
