In a significant political development in Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy’s home district of Chittoor, Amasa Rajasekhar Reddy, who was appointed the new president of the District Congress Committee, assumed office on Monday.

A special function got up in this connection with Chittoor MLA C.K. Jayachandra Reddy in the chair, was marked by fanfare as the new DCC chief, in his maiden address, vowed to take its fortunes to newer heights in the next elections.

But the task appears to be easier said than done for a variety of reasons. First and foremost among them is the deeply strained relationship between the Chief Minister and Punganur MLA Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy who, along with his followers, skipped the swearing-in ceremony of Mr. Rajasekhar Reddy.

Among others who were conspicuously absent at the function were Minister Galla Aruna and former Deputy Speaker G. Kuthuhalamma.
