Eggs hurled at Minister's car; case under SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act
Labour Minister Danam Nagender on Sunday lost his cool and allegedly thrashed a motorcyclist accusing him of hurling eggs on his vehicle.
An incensed Mr. Nagender grabbed a baton from a constable and started chasing Shravan Kumar, an executive from Addagutta, where he went to inaugurate a clinic. As soon as the Minister came to the venue, a group of TRS activists accosted him demanding his stand on Telangana.
Amidst the melee, a few eggs were hurled on his vehicle and some unidentified persons started running away from the spot. The Minister got down from his vehicle and on noticing Kumar and his friend Narasimha Yadav trying to flee on their bike, caught hold of the former while Yadav managed to escape from the spot.
After taking a few blows, Kumar jumped into an adjacent compound. The Minister's associates barged into the premises and despite police constables trying to bar them, repeatedly kicked and punched Kumar resulting in injuries to him.
Soon, a contingent of TRS activists led by their city general secretary D. Srinivas landed at the Tukaram Gate police station and staged a demonstration in protest against the police refusing to book a case lodged by Kumar against the Minister .
The TRS leader claimed that Kumar was innocent and was in no way connected with the incident.
“Without enquiring about actual persons' involvement, the Minister beat him up brutally,” charged Mr. Srinivas. The police later relented and based on a complaint lodged by Kumar, registered a SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against Mr. Nagender. The police said video footage would be examined to arrive at the truth.
