A minor altercation among some young men playing cricket in Sector 44 here on Tuesday culminated in a tragedy when one of the players slit the throat of another in a fit of rage.
The young men, mostly residents of Kanhai village, were playing cricket on a vacant plot in the institutional area in the afternoon when a fracas broke out over the controversial dismissal of a batsman.
“There was a heated argument between the players belonging to rival teams and one of them, later identified as Niket, slit the throat of Ikran Khan with a butcher knife,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Maheshwar Dayal.
