The Madras High Court has reserved orders on a public interest litigation petition seeking the quashing of a notification of JIPMER, Puducherry, of July 21 this year for recruitment of 465 staff nurses.
In the petition filed through counsel M.Palanimuthu, the petitioner, N.Adinarayanan of Puducherry, said the hospital issued an online advertisement calling for applications to fill up the vacant post of nurses.
Though the notification said there would be a written test, no centres were mentioned.
Also, the vacancies under the reserved category were not given.
When he made enquiries, he was informed that the tests would be held at Puducherry, Chennai, Tiruchirappalli, and Thiruvananthapuram on September 8.
Out of the 463 shortlisted candidates, 323 had been selected from Thiruvananthapuram alone.
The institution itself had produced three batches of nurses, each consisting of 225 students.
Not even 10 candidates who were trained in the institution had made it to the provisional list.
The petitioner alleged that there were irregularities in the selection process.
