Dharam Singh promises additional funds to make the event memorable

SHRAVANABELAGOLA: Taking stock of the development works in Shravanabelagola for Mahamastakabhisheka, Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh on Tuesday said that besides the Rs. 25 crores released for the works, the Government will sanction additional funds to make the event memorable.
Reminding the authorities of deadline, he directed them to complete the works by January 20.
He said the Principal Secretary Ramaswamy will camp in Shravanabelagola to oversee the works and an officer of the rank of Additional Director General of Police will supervise security measures.
He said the President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the Vice-President, Bhairon Singh Shekawat, and the All India Congress Committee (AICC) President, Sonia Gandhi, and various Union Ministers were likely to attend the event.
Participating in the meeting, Minister for Water Resources M. Mallikarjun Kharge said as only 26 days were left for the grand finale, the authorities should concentrate on completing the works taken up to ensure that the stay of the visitors is comfortable. The question of security figured prominently at the meeting.
The Director-General and Inspector-General of Police, B.S. Sial, sought additional funds for fencing the Vindyagiri Hill and noted the need to have closed circuit television sets for surveillance.
He also sought helicopters for aerial surveillance. Mr. Sial said he would convene a meeting of top officials shortly to discuss the security measures.
