GUNTUR: Youth Congress leader and Chiranjeevi Fans Association president Karasani Srinivasa Rao, 40, was lynched in the heart of Guntur city on busy Kothapeta main road on Monday evening while hundreds witnessed helplessly.
The former State Youth Congress Secretary was returning on foot from a private hospital in Kothapeta at 7.20 p.m. after paying a visit to his ailing grandmother, when three persons chased him and threw some smoke bombs to create panic. Karasani Srinivas took shelter in Aman Tea Stall opposite Leela Mahal Theatre from where he was dragged out by the accused and hacked to death with swords.
By the time people around could come to terms with what was happening, three accused fled in a vehicle. They left behind a bag that contained some smoke bombs near the petrol pump adjacent to the tea stall. Superintendent of Police Mahesh Chandra Laddha, Deputy Superintendent of Police V. Rajendranath and other personnel cordoned off the entire region.
