CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi will soon have a swanky office on the Marina.
As numerous political personalities and public figures throng his house in the morning, Mr. Karunanidhi wants to interact with them at a place other than his residence, say sources.
Located near the headquarters of the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board, the "camp office," as it is called in official parlance, was till now used by a Public Works Department's unit dealing with World Bank work.
The Chief Minister is likely to use the office for carrying out official work and meeting visitors before proceeding to the Secretariat. This will bring down number of visitors at his residence and the Secretariat.
Originally, the building was meant to be a guesthouse of the PWD. It was constructed four years ago at a cost of Rs. 1 crore.
The idea of converting the building into the Chief Minister's camp office was discussed at a meeting Public Works Minister Durai Murgan held a week ago with senior officials to review the functioning of the department.
