Electoral alliance between Bharatiya Janata Party and the Telugu Desam in both Telangana and Seemandhra regions is almost certain.
This message was reportedly conveyed to a senior State BJP leader by Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Arun Jaitely during the visit to the city here on Tuesday. BJP national president, Rajnath Singh, senior leader and MP, Prakash Javadekar and Mr. Jaitley were felicitated by Telangana BJP leaders at a thanksgiving public meeting for their support for creation of Telangana State.
According to BJP sources, Mr. Jaitley wanted the senior State party functionary to convey the message of the proposed alliance and prepare the mindset of the leaders and the cadre in this regard. Although a majority of Telangana BJP leaders were in favour of a tie-up with Telugu Desam, State BJP president G. Kishan Reddy and few others were not keen and wanted the party to contest all the seats on its own. Meanwhile, Telugu Desam Rajya Sabha member Y.Satyanarayana Chowdhary met Mr. Jaitley and reportedly wanted the alliance to be in place for the local bodies elections.
Earlier, in a brief chat with reporters soon after his arrival at the Begumpet airport, Mr. Rajnath Singh did not rule out the possibility of having an alliance with Telugu Desam. Asked about the likelihood of BJP-TDP alliance, he said there had not been any alliance in Andhra Pradesh so far. However, he was not ruling out the possibility of alliances with other parties not only in Andhra Pradesh, but all over the country.
