Police suspect father's hand in gruesome killing
HYDERABAD: In a gruesome incident, the beheaded body of a 21-day-old baby girl was found next to a compound wall of a house at NGO's Colony in Vanasthalipuram on Sunday. The infant met a gory end hours after her parents performed her cradle ceremony, and even before she was given a name.
The couple, migrant workers from Gopalpet in Mahabubnagar district, and their other two children Neelamma, 12, and Anjali, 6, were residing in a hut.
"We suspect the infant might have been sacrificed or killed by her father Seshaiah who was apparently unhappy with the arrival of the third female child in the family," Vanasthalipuram Inspector M. Chandrasekhar said. The police said the culprits tried in vain to cover the body with soil after dumping it near one Mallesham's house.
Another police official said Seshaiah's role was being strongly suspected in the case as he had wiped out bloodstains found in front of his hut with water. Vermilion and some lemons were also found inside. Moreover, Seshaiah, a plumber, was giving conflicting versions about the child's whereabouts since Saturday, the official said.
But the baby's mother Chenamma told reporters that her daughter was missing within an hour after they slept. "I woke up around 2 a.m. only to find the baby missing and immediately alerted my husband. We were to give her a name today but she is no more," she said, weeping inconsolably.
The Inspector said the mystery behind the case could be solved after getting post-mortem report. "The report will confirm whether the baby was done to death or not," he said, adding a murder case under Section 302 of IPC was registered based on a complaint lodged by Mallesham.
