Investigation is at a crucial stage: IGP

The Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF), which is investigating the multi-crore scam in three divisions of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), has made its first arrest.

On Thursday night, the BMTF arrested the Executive Engineer of Gandhinagar division, I. Vendon, and interrogated him. He was produced in court on Friday and remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.

The BBMP had handed over the investigation of the multi-crore scam in Malleswaram, Rajarajeshwarinagar and Gandhinagar divisions to the BMTF.

Inspector-General of Police of the BMTF R.P. Sharma told reporters here on Friday that contrary to allegations, the BMTF had arrested Mr. Vendon and had not illegally detained him. According to procedure, Mr. Vendon underwent a medical examination before being taken in for interrogation.

“Since the BMTF does not have the resources, he was taken to Ulsoor Gate police station for interrogation in the night. On Friday morning, the interrogation continued in the BMTF office,” he said. Refusing to divulge any more details, he said that the investigation was at a crucial stage. Sources said that during interrogation, Mr. Vendon named 11 officials allegedly involved in the scam. They also said that there was a lot of political pressure on the BMTF.
