MADURAI: Automatic weather stations, installed at five places, in the district under the National Agricultural Development Project, became operational on Wednesday. According to Collector N. Mathivanan, these stations have been established at a cost of Rs.7 lakh each.

The new facility will record the atmospheric temperature, rainfall, wind velocity (speed/kmph), wind pressure, atmospheric pressure, leaf wetness, relative humidity, soil moisture, soil temperature and solar radiation.

Joint Director (Agriculture) S. Sevugaperumal, who inaugurated the new facility at Alanganallur, said that public could access weather details of the district at www.tawn.tnau.ac.in.
