Resurvey will be completed in six villages in Attappady in Palakkad district in eight months to detect alienation of tribal land, Electricity Minister A.K. Balan said here on Thursday.
Mr. Balan told presspersons that the government had decided to expedite the work in the wake of complaints of encroachments on tribal land by a private windmill company. The government had decided to trace the irregularities in land transactions since 1976. Officers who were responsible for the alienation of tribal land would be brought to book. Resurvey had not been conducted in Attappady village for the past 60 years. Hence, it had been decided to examine the basic revenue documents.
Referring to the power purchase agreement between the Kerala State Electricity Board and the private windmill company, he said that before granting technical sanction for power generation, the board had referred eight basic documents, including the land deed, possession certificate and tax receipt of the company. Such documents were not necessary for issuing technical sanction, but the State insisted on verifying them to ensure the genuineness of the company. On examining 56 documents related to 246 acres, too many irregularities were detected and hence a comprehensive investigation was conducted.
