No permission for holding dharna, police tell Congress MLC

HYDERABAD: The annual ritual of offering tributes to ‘Amarajeevi’ Potti Sriramulu on his death anniversary here on Tuesday by about 40 Congress legislators from Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra regions turned eventful when Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, MLC, suddenly sat on a protest under his statue near Secretariat in support of a unified Andhra Pradesh.

The legislators started leaving the place after paying floral tributes and raising slogans hailing an integrated State, when Mr. Reddy stayed back. He refused to leave the place in spite of requests of the police officers. After ten minutes, he followed the police and got into a waiting jeep after the latter explained to him that there was no permission for his dharna as Section 144 was in force. Interestingly, his nephew and YSR’s son Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy was pitching for an integrated State at about the same time in the Lok Sabha.
