Gangalakurthi Agraharam (Konaseema): The illicit liquor tragedy is rocking Amalapuram and Ambajipeta rural areas with the death toll rising to 12 till Tuesday evening in various hospitals.

All those who fell after drinking the hooch have been shifted to Kakinada General Hospital from different hospitals in Amalapuram.

The district administration has estimated that about 150-200 persons might have consumed illicit liquor in the last two days in different places, including at the Antarvedi Kalyanotsavam.

Prime accused Pechetti Ramakrishna was arrested and questioned along with his assistants. He reportedly told the police that he had mixed diazepam tablets in black jaggery wash to give more kick to the consumers.

Meanwhile, the total number of inpatients in Kakinada Government General Hospital is 42. One more victim has been shifted to Kakinada Apollo Hospitals where his condition is also serious. Doctors say that the condition of eight persons is grave and the toll may rise.

The hooch victims started coming to hospitals in Amalapuram from Bandarulanka, Palagummi, Gangalakurthi Agraharam and Mosalapalli villages.

Some more are likely to be admitted to the hospital following the “tom tom” arranged by the district administration to rush the victims to hospitals.
