Reflecting a gradual return to normality after the exodus, people from the northeast headed back to Bangalore in special trains from Guwahati. The situation eased in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu on Monday.
Northeast Frontier Railway spokesman Nripen Bhattacharya said in Guwahati that three special trains had left for Bangalore on Sunday, taking back in phases those who had fled fearing attacks after rumours that emerged following the Assam violence. But he could not give the exact number of people who returned to Bangalore.
