Man held in murder case

The police on Friday arrested the husband of a woman whose body was found on Thursday in a half-charred condition at a junkyard in Periyamilaguparai.

A special police team zeroed in on the accused by conducting a door-to-door checks and enquiries. It came to light that Balakrishnan, an employee of an eatery, had poured kerosene over his wife Lakshmi and set her ablaze following a quarrel. He had confessed to have assaulted his wife while quarrelling over her pledged gold chain. He had poured kerosene and set her afire. He kept the match box in her hand and placed a kerosene bottle beside her to make it appear as a suicide.
