Washington: U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has expressed concern over the release of Pakistan’s nuclear scientist A.Q. Khan from house arrest.
“I am very much concerned,” Ms. Clinton told journalists in response to a question on the issue during a joint press conference with Philippines President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo here.
“We will have more to say about that,” Ms. Clinton said.
Earlier, the State Department made it clear that it was not pleased with the release of the “father” of Pakistan’s nuclear programme. “We believe A.Q. Khan remains a serious proliferation risk. The proliferation support that Dr. Khan and his associates provided to Iran and North Korea has had a harmful impact on international security, and will [have] for years to come,” State Department spokesperson Gordon Duguid said in reply to a query. — PTI
