Memorandum of understanding signed
Karaikudi: In a significant move to woo Chinese students and teachers to study Computer Science and Engineering, Business Administration and English Language courses, Alagappa University, on Friday, inked a memorandum of understanding with Jiujiang University.
After signing the MoU with P. Kanniappan, Vice-Chancellor, Alagappa University, Prof. Chen Mianshui, president, Jiujiang University, told The Hindu that he was impressed by the adeptness of Indian students in Computer Science and English.
Mr. Mianshui said his university had 40,000 students on rolls and more than 2,000 of them were likely to come to India, particularly Alagappa University. Initially, a team of teachers would come to Alagappa University from the next semester for doing Ph.D. and M.Phil. in various disciplines. Later, students would follow. Though Indian universities had much to develop vis-à-vis their Chinese counterparts in terms of infrastructure, students here were well ahead in terms of knowledge and skills. "If Indian universities want to reap the advantages of teaching Chinese students, you have to upgrade your facilities," he said.
Mr. Kanniappan said the tie-up would facilitate exchange of education and research materials, publications, students and faculty.
