BANGALORE: One village each in 202 rural Assembly constituencies will be developed as a "madari grama" or model village in a pilot project inspired by the Chinese example, Housing Minister D.T. Jayakumar said here on Friday. He told presspersons that about 10 to 15 acres of land in the selected village would be earmarked for development as a residential locality of 200 to 300 plots.
In the first phase, 100 houses would be built. The model villages would have amenities found in urban areas. The Minister said that in the golden jubilee year of the unification of the State, the Government would take up 50 housing projects.
In the last one year, the Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) got good response to its 27 projects launched in the State.
Around Bangalore, KHB had planned projects in Nelamangala (300 acres of land), Dasanapura (300 acres), Suryanagara (12 acres), Addevishwanathamnagar (250 acres), and Hoskote (28.6 acres). Two projects in Mysore and one in Mangalore were on the cards.
