New Delhi: Exquisite Afghan handicrafts, stones and woodwork can be seen and the cuisine of the country tasted here for six days, thanks to the first Afghan festival being held here.
`The Festival of Afghanistan', showcasing the culture, cuisine and handicrafts of the country, was inaugurated by Afghan President Hamid Karzai here on Tuesday.
The festival brings together Kandari and Ghazni stones, Aisha Aziz's Afghan stones, silk chapans (Afghan jackets), clothing by Sara Afghan, Hanifa and Nasima's silk scarves and pottery. Images of the centuries-old Bamiyan Buddhas, destroyed by the Taliban regime in 2001, are also on show at the festival as a reminder of the change in the Afghan Government's policy on culture.
The famed Afghan baked pastry and confectionaries are also available. PTI
