CHENNAI: The State Government has decided to conduct the Common Entrance Test (CET) for admission to professional courses on May 18 and 19 instead of May 13 and 14.

An official release here said on Thursday that the decision to alter the dates was based on the recommendation of the Vice-Chancellor of Anna University.

Counting centres

"The Vice-Chancellor has now reported that many of the centres which are to function as examination centres for holding the CET are also likely to be selected as counting centres" for the elections. As this would pose some difficulty in holding the test as per the previous schedule, he had recommended a small alteration in dates, the release said.

The CET would be held for all students, including those taking the State Board examination in the Plus Two stage in the context of the pendency of the special leave petition filed by the Government in the Supreme Court, it said.

Clash averted

With the change in dates, the clash over the Pre-medical and Pre-dental entrance examination, which is scheduled for May 14, has also been overcome. And the students will get a few more days to prepare. At the same time, the university authorities say it will not affect the rest of the admission process.
