BHUBANESWAR: Heavy rain on Tuesday in most parts of Orissa forced Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to cancel his visit to the backward Kalahandi-Bolangir-Koraput (KBK) region and return to New Delhi.

Dr. Singh, who arrived here on Monday on a two-day tour of the State, was scheduled to fly to Bolangir and Koraput districts to interact with farmers and local people. But inclement weather prevented him from going there.

Heavy rain prevented Dr. Singh from flying to Kaniha in Angul district on Monday to dedicate the 3000 MW power station of the National Thermal Power Corporation to the nation. He did so from here through a programme. Doordarshan telecast it live.

Incessant rain continued in many parts of the State under the influence of a depression over the Bay of Bengal.
