TRS activists 'storm' school, `force' management to declare holiday
Entire drama unfolds in front of students`They came on motorcycles armed with lathis'
HYDERABAD: Students of DAV Public School in Neredmet had a traumatic time on Saturday when local Telangana Rashtra Samiti activists allegedly barged into the school, thrashed the security staff and forced the school management to declare a holiday.
The local TRS chapter had given a bandh call on Saturday for educational institutions in Malkajgiri area as part of their agitation for a separate statehood. About 35 activists stormed the school and started raising slogans of `Jai Telangana'. When the security personnel tried to intervene, the activists allegedly thrashed them.
They then tried to damage the school buses. But the school management managed to stop them by promising to declare a holiday. Breaking a few flowerpots, the activists reportedly abused the school management for not towing their line.
The entire drama unfolded in front of the stunned students. "They came on motorcycles armed with lathis and started attacking our buses. Our teacher closed the classrooms to prevent them from barging in," said a shocked Class X student P. Kaushik.
Students who lived in the vicinity were allowed to leave the school immediately while those staying in far-flung localities had to wait for hours to leave.
"I was informed about the incident by one of my friends. I had to cancel an important meeting and rush to the school. This is an atrocious act," said K. Rudresh whose daughter Saranya is in class VIII.
"It becomes very risky for students in such situations. They should have taken a peaceful recourse for the bandh," another parent R. Kalyanvardhan said.
"As it was an unruly mob, we could not even talk to them," a school official said.
Several schools in the vicinity had already declared holiday because of the bandh. However, unaware of the bandh call, the DAV school management decided to remain open, which annoyed the agitators.
