Transport department introduces single-sheet format
CHENNAI: The Transport department has simplified the application form for obtaining learner's licence. A single-sheet format will be in use from Friday. Earlier, an applicant had to fill forms 1, 1A, 2, 3, and a duplicate for Form 3.
The new application form will be available at all Regional Transport Offices in the city from Friday. In other parts of the State it will come into effect on Monday. It is easy to process, while complying with all the mandatory requirements of the Central Motor Vehicles Act, say authorities.
Those who apply for a learner's licence will have to carry two passport size photographs and original documents and copies of date of birth and proof of residence documents. Applicants have to pay separately for each category of vehicle.
The new forms will be available with the Public Relations Officer at the Regional Transport Offices in the city as well as all over the State, officials say.
The simplification process marks the first phase of the modernisation of the Transport Department. In the second phase, the authorities are planning to further reduce the paperwork for the learner's licence applicants. A senior official said the simplification process was in favour of "quicker service", so that people could get their learner's licence without waiting too long at the RTO offices.
