All-party meet to discuss future course of action on Vizhinjam project

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Cabinet on Monday decided to acquire 500 acres of land close to the Technopark at Kazhakuttam near here for development of the proposed Technocity.

Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan told the media after a Cabinet meeting that the acquisition would be done on a fast-track basis.

The Chief Minister said an all-party meeting would be convened to discuss the future course of action on the proposed Vizhinjam International Transhipment Terminal.

Mr. Achuthanandan said the Government had decided to agree with the suggestion that the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) should continue to inquire the SNC Lavalin case. This was in view of the refusal of the Central Bureau of Investigation to take up the case. The Chief Minister said this was a collective decision, indicating that his personal views were different. He would state his opinion later.

Though the Cabinet discussed issues relating to the Kerala State Transport Project generally, no decision was taken on its extension. The Chief Minister was awaiting the report of a three-member inquiry committee
