A rose garden will be developed at Bryant Park
KODAIKANAL: More facilities will be created and safety measures upgraded on the hill station for tourists coming from different parts of the country. A rose garden will be developed at Bryant Park and safety grills installed around Pillar Rock, Guna Caves and around Kodaikanal lake, according to R. Kirlosh Kumar.
He was inaugurating the summer festival and flower show at Bryant Park here on Saturday.
The district administration had sent proposals at an estimated cost of Rs.5 crore for various development activities on the hill station.
These development works will be implemented by Horticulture, Public works, Forest and Tourism Departments. A complete facelift will be given to K.R.R. Auditorium.
To ensure cleanliness, underground drainage project would be implemented at an estimated cost of Rs.93 crore in Kodaikanal town shortly, he announced.
A floral tower measuring over 10 feet was the star attraction of the summer festival. For the first time, varieties of flowers imported from Holland were displayed for public view.
Sprawling over 20.50 acres of land, the Bryant Park has a musical fountain and children park with decorative lights. Glass house had been recently renovated and 92 varieties of Aloe were planted. Besides, there were 73 varieties of roses, 85 varieties of seasonal flower plants and 325 types of trees and plants in the park. Green roses were the star attractions.
Self-help groups from Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Tuticorin , Madurai, Theni and Coimbatore displayed their products. Hundreds of flowers, fruits and vegetables were displayed in the flower show. Crowd was heavy at the Bryant Park and lake area.
Department of Tourism and Sports Department have jointly organised cultural programmes, including folk dance and light music and sports meet as part of the eight-day festival.
Already, the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation Limited started operating special buses to the hill station from Dindigul, Madurai, Theni and Batlagundu.
Besides, it is operating special buses between tourists’ spots in the town for the convenience of tourists.
