Justice N.R.L. Nageswar Rao of the High Court on Monday cancelled the bail granted by the CBI Special Court to Y. Srilakshmi, IAS officer, former Secretary of Industries and Mines Department. She has been asked to surrender on or before January 6.

The Judge was allowing the petition filed by CBI seeking cancellation of bail granted to her. She is one of the accused in the illegal mining case involving Gali Janardhan Reddy's Obulapuram Mining Company. Justice Rao perused records and felt that she could not have been granted bail like this.

He said: “There is more than sufficient material available on record as to how the respondent was associated with grant of lease and issuing of GOs which ultimately favoured the OMC ignoring the vital condition of the purpose of lease being for ‘captive mining' for the proposed steel plant to be set up by OMC in the GO.”

The Judge did not appreciate the stand that the subordinate staff are responsible. He further said that he has “ no hesitation in holding that the order passed by the learned judge is not legal and is liable to be set aside and since investigation against the respondent is not yet completed, it will be hazardous for the investigating agency to gather the entire evidence if the respondent is to be on bail.”
