LALGARH (Paschim Medinipur District): A first information report was filed by police on Wednesday at the Lalgarh thana against film personality Aparna Sen and seven other persons for violating Section 144 of the Cr. PC. when they went to meet Police Santrash Birodhi Janasadharaner Committee (PSBJC) convener Chhatradhar Mahato last Sunday.

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 Cr. PC. were imposed in seven adjacent blocks following the ransacking and torching of the house of a prominent Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader on June 15.

District Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Verma confirmed that an FIR was lodged against the group but refused to divulge the details.

Ms. Sen was accompanied by, among others, Bengali poet Joy Goswami and theatre personalities Shaoli Mitra and Kaushik Sen. They are members of a non-political intellectual platform named Swajan.

They visited Mr. Mahato at Pathardanga village, two km from here, to discuss the plight of common people in the wake of the joint operation launched by the Central paramilitary forces and the State police.

The group had also offered to talk with the State government and persuade it to withdraw forces from the area and declare a ceasefire there if Mr. Mahato could provide it an assurance that there would be no further violence in the region.
