Tirupur: Tirupur Corporation has taken steps to expedite the project for lighting arterial road stretches at an outlay of Rs. 1.90 crore allocated as grant by the State Government. “We are expecting to complete the project before the end of the first half of the current financial year,” the Corporation officials told The Hindu. As part of the scheme, a total of 284 central median lights and 120 road side lights will be erected under 11 packages along six road stretches to a length of about 12 kilometres. Sector-wise, 60 lights have been allocated on Tirupur-Dharapuram stretch, 70 for Tirupur-Kangayam road, 100 for Tirupur-Uthukuli road, 80 for Tirupur-Avinashi road, 74 for Tirupur-Palladam road and 20 for the stretch connecting Tirupur-Palladam road to Tirupur-Dharapuram road. Of these, erection of poles to mount lights planned along Tirupur-Dharapuram road has still not been commenced as the Corporation authorities await completion of road widening work along the stretch. Corporation engineers said while the work along Tirupur-Avinashi road was almost nearing completion, that in other segments was half-way through.

They said energy saving lamps/bulbs were being used to light the roads to reduce power consumption from the grid.
