As part of the scheme, a total of 284 central median lights and 120 road side lights will be erected under 11 packages along six road stretches to a length of about 12 kilometres. Sector-wise, 60 lights have been allocated on Tirupur-Dharapuram stretch, 70 for Tirupur-Kangayam road, 100 for Tirupur-Uthukuli road, 80 for Tirupur-Avinashi road, 74 for Tirupur-Palladam road and 20 for the stretch connecting Tirupur-Palladam road to Tirupur-Dharapuram road. Of these, erection of poles to mount lights planned along Tirupur-Dharapuram road has still not been commenced as the Corporation authorities await completion of road widening work along the stretch. Corporation engineers said while the work along Tirupur-Avinashi road was almost nearing completion, that in other segments was half-way through.
They said energy saving lamps/bulbs were being used to light the roads to reduce power consumption from the grid.
