HYDERABAD: The popular Congress leader and senior MLA from Khairatabad P. Janardhan Reddy died of cardiac arrest while proceeding to attend a party function here on Friday. Mr. Reddy, who had alighted from his car to participate in the Congress Foundation Day celebrations in Secunderabad, collapsed while walking along with his supporters. He was rushed to a private hospital where doctors declared him dead. The 59-year-old MLA is survived by wife, four daughters and a son.
The funeral will be held at Amberpet on Saturday with police honours. Senior Congress leaders, including AICC general secretary Veerappa Moily, will attend. Sources close to the family said PJR suffered from multiple ailments, including low blood pressure, diabetes and aortic valve disorder for which he underwent treatment earlier.
The State Government has declared a local holiday for educational institutions and all the Government offices in the limits of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation on Saturday while Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has cancelled all his engagements. A former Minister in the Cabinets headed by T. Anjaiah, N. Janardhana Reddy and Kotla Vijayabhaskara Reddy, PJR held portfolios of housing, labour and civil supplies.
