GURGAON: In an incident reminiscent of American high-school shootings, two Class VIII students of a private school here reportedly shot dead their classmate on Tuesday afternoon. Both the accused have been detained by the police.

The incident took place around 2 p.m. when the accused had an altercation with 14-year-old Abhishek Tyagi and, in a fit of rage, fired five shots from close range in the school corridor after their class got over. Both the accused took turns to fire at the victim, police said.

Abhishek, who sustained four bullet wounds in the temple and chest, was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The bullets were fired from the licensed pistol of the father of one of the accused. He had hidden the weapon in his sock, police said.

A senior police officer investigating the case said the victim had bullied the accused and the two eventually decided to kill him.

It is learnt that Abhishek reportedly had a quarrel with the accused a few days ago, but the matter was resolved following the intervention of their parents and teachers.

Abhishek’s body was handed over to his parents in the evening after a post-mortem examination. The father of the victim is a transporter.

The police plan to question the parents of one of the accused to ascertain how he managed to lay his hands on the weapon.
