TIRUCHI: St. Joseph’s College has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Huaihua University, China, for student-faculty exchange programmes and collaborative research and covering various disciplines.

Inking the pact at the college on Thursday, college Principal Fr. R. Rajarathinam said that the college has been into collaborative research through various MoUs with national and international universities.

The MoU was planned after an invitation from the University for institutional partnership between the college and university with the intent of exploring research and software development. The MoU would include collaborative video conferencing exchanges, e-content development and exploration of industry interface.

The educational system in India was conducive for Chinese students and the degrees obtained here have enhanced the job opportunities in China, said the president of the Chinese University Xia Li Fa. The University has signed a couple of MoUs with other Indian institutions.

Faculty from St. Joseph’s College would go to Huaihua University to teach English and Computer Science and their Chinese counterparts, in turn, would teach Electronics for the students here, Rev. Fr. Rajarathinam said. Students from Huaihua University would be allowed to pursue both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in these disciplines.

The college, Fr. Rajarathinam said, would provide offer expertise in developing e-content and curriculum design for joint research projects.

The college would also depute training personnel for enhancing communicative skills in English.
