HYDERABAD: A mother threw her three-month-old son to death from Gandhi hospital building before jumping down carrying her elder son here on Friday, the police said.
While the infant Charan died within minutes, his sibling Sai Kumar, 3, escaped with minor bruises. Their mother Madhavi, 22, against whom the police registered cases of murder and suicide attempt, sustained serious injuries. Gandhi Hospital authorities said her condition was critical.
Initial inquiries revealed family disputes drove the woman to resort to the extreme step but it required a thorough probe, the Chilakalguda police station Inspector G.P. Vinod Kumar said.
Madhavi walked into the hospital carrying her two sons around 6 p.m. She went up the second floor taking the ramp connecting the main building to the emergency block.
“She first threw her little baby from the corner window and later jumped holding the other boy,” the Inspector explained quoting eyewitnesses.
A resident of Parsigutta, Madhavi got married to Rajesh of the same locality area four years ago. Rajesh was working as contract labourer in housekeeping wing of the hospital.
The meagre earnings could barely help him make both ends meet.
This coupled with family problems, resulted in frequent quarrels between the wife and the husband.
