Pradayini was Intermediate second year student

HYDERABAD: An Intermediate second year student P.R.L. Pradayini committed suicide by jumping from her college building here at Punjagutta on Saturday, the police said. Police are yet to establish what drove her to end her life.

Names of teachers

Police found the names of some college teachers scribbled with chalk on the floor and benches in a fifth floor room, from where Pradayini (16) seemed to have jumped.

They are verifying whether the girl scribbled the names before taking the fatal jump.

The teenager came to Sri Sarada Junior College in the morning and the staff members are not sure if she stayed back at the college after the classes.

The college management runs a women’s degree college in the same building in the second shift.

College principal Sridevi told reporters that she heard a thud around 3 p.m. The watchman who rushed out saw the girl lying unconscious on the road. “She died within minutes of some passers-by shifting her to the roadside,” N. Madhusudhan Reddy, West Zone DCP said. Pradayini reportedly failed in optional subject of first year.

Room with a balcony

Police surmise that the girl went to the fifth floor which had a room with a balcony. Three doors of the room were locked from inside.

This suggested that the girl was alone. The balcony has a two-foot high iron railing ruling out the possibility of an accidental trip-over..

In addition to scribbling of names of three staff members, the girl wrote some sentences too on the benches and floor.

Police suspect that the girl spent some time in the unused room before jumping from the balcony.

A case of suspicious death was registered.
