Chief Minister reviews status of airport connectivity
Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has directed officials to make efforts to obtain pending clearances from the NHAI and Defence authorities for completing the P.V. Narasimha Rao Elevated Expressway Corridor at the earliest.
Reviewing the status of airport connectivity, widening of inner ring road, radial roads, ORR works with Ministers and officials here on Wednesday, the Chief Minister emphasised the need to synchronise the work on Expressway with the commissioning of Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in March, 2008. The road connectivity works should be completed in time to enable passengers reach the airport in 30 minutes, he said.
He directed the officials to complete the 5.1 km first phase of the elevated expressway from Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital to Hyderguda covering congested high traffic area by February, 2008 and widening of the roads from Hyderguda to Aramgarh junction to a six-lane road before March. Once the NHAI sanction was awarded, underpass and trumpet interchange works near Aramgarh junction could also be given top priority, Dr. Reddy said.
Officials assured him that the shortfall in works on first phase of expressway with a down ramp at Hyderguda junction would be made up by increasing manpower and other resources by July end.
The officials identified important road corridors like Road No.1, Banjara Hills, Lakdi-ka-pool to Masab Tank, Sanathnagar to SR Nagar, Ameerpet to Punjagutta among others for easing congestion.
The police officials sought intervention of Chief Minister's office for not allowing any more malls on Banjara Hills Rd.No.1 and approval for banning parking of vehicles on that road. The existing road from Banjara Hills to Masab Tank would be widened to 100 feet to help ease congestion. Dr. Reddy also directed R &B officials to take up strengthening works for the road connecting NH-7 and NH-9 from Shadnagar to Kandi via Chevella and HUDA would provide the funds for diverting heavy traffic on NH 7 to NH 9 on priority.
R&B Minister T. Jeevan Reddy, Energy Minister Mohd. Ali Shabbir, Infrastructure and Airports Minister M. Venkata Ramana Rao were present at the review meeting. Senior officials of the MA&UD, HUDA, GHMC, INCAP, R&B and Police departments attended the meeting.
