Fracas over SI issuing challan to real estate dealer for not wearing seatbelt

    HYDERABAD: A real estate dealer and his associates on Sunday attacked Kachiguda traffic police station and damaged furniture after they were issued a challan for not wearing seatbelt.

    Trouble broke out when traffic Sub-Inspector Shaik Meera Sharif accompanied by a home guard Seshu Gupta stopped S.M. Jaffrey's car at Nimboliadda. When the SI asked for seatbelt, Jaffrey replied that he was a close relative of a legislator in the city and warned him of dire consequences if he imposed a fine.A heated argument ensued between the two over the issue. However, the SI issued a challan of Rs.100. After paying the penalty, Jaffrey stopped the car on the main road and began abusing the SI.

    " He continued his tirade against me and called his associates on his mobile," Mr. Sharif said.

    Over 20 persons came to the police station, ransacked stationery and damaged furniture. Mr. Sharif alerted the police who, in turn, rushed to the spot and took three persons into custody while Jaffrey (35), a resident of Dabeerpura, escaped from the scene. The police registered a case against Jaffrey and his associates.
