"Neither State Government nor Centre interested in the issue"

CHENNAI: The State and Central Governments will be thrown out if they try to deceive the people of Tamil Nadu on the Cauvery water issue, said former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

Speaking to reporters during her one-day fast here on Sunday, seeking publication of the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal in the Official Gazette of the Centre, Ms. Jayalalithaa said the two Governments were neither interested nor willing to implement the final award.

The Tamil Nadu Government had done nothing in the matter so far, though it had informed an all-party meeting, held to discuss the issue, that it would seek further clarifications from the Tribunal. Even 45 days after the award was passed, the DMK Government had neither sought any clarification from the Tribunal nor moved the Supreme Court against the ruling, she said.

Reiterating that the Governments should not delay the notification any further, she said publishing the award in the Official Gazette of the Centre was the first step towards its implementation.
