Bijapur: Twenty-one persons were killed, ten in Bijapur district, and several houses were damaged in rain-related incidents across the State since Tuesday evening.

Ten persons were killed and several houses collapsed following heavy rain in Bijapur district.

The dead in Bijapur district have been identified as Prakash Singhe, a resident of Vaddar Oni in Bijapur taluk; Laxmibai Talgond, Jakkappa Talgond, Mahadevi Hadapad and Bhagyashri Hiremath of Basavan Bagewadi taluk; and Mohammad Kalburgi, Hasanappa Kurimani, Shivganga Kandappagol, Chaitra Aski and Mahadevi Biradar of Sindagi taluk.

In Bagalkot district, three persons died following heavy rain since Tuesday.

House collapse

Bidar Staff Correspondent reports:

Mallamma (25) and her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Radhika were killed, while Renuka and Shantamma were injured when the roof of a house collapsed following heavy rain in Kembavi village of Surpur taluk in Gulbarga district on Wednesday evening.

Hanmavva (22) and her sister, Ambika (16), were washed away in flash floods when they were crossing a nala at Yempalli village in Chincholi taluk on Tuesday evening. Their bodies were recovered on Wednesday.

In another incident, Somappa Gurappa, a farmer, was washed away in floodwaters at Hunasgi village in Surpur taluk on Tuesday evening.

Two persons were killed when lightning struck them while they were working in their fields at Kishan Naik tanda of Aurad taluk in Bidar district on Wednesday evening.


Raichur Staff Correspondent writes:

Rangappa (28) was electrocuted in Lingsugur taluk while life in most parts of the district was thrown out of gear owing to incessant rain.
