Encounter in Gangaram forest area in Kothaguda mandal

WARANGAL: One naxal belonging to Praja Pratighatana group was killed in an encounter in Gangaram forest area in Kothaguda mandal in the wee hours of Wednesday.

According to the police, the special parties were checking the vehicles on Khammam border on the eve of PPG anniversary celebrations. The police tried to stop an ambassador car which was coming from Yellandu of Khammam district but the driver did not stop and the police began chasing it.

The driver immediately stopped the car after a while and suddenly opened fire at the police and tried to escape into the forest. When the police retaliated, the naxal was killed.

When the police checked the vehicle, they found four weapons hidden in the false roof which were supposed to be handed over to Mohannana squad of PPG.

The police recovered two 8 mm rifles, one Springfield rifle and one .30 carbine from the scene.

The deceased naxal was identified as one B. Badru alias Sanjeev of Govindaraopet mandal. Two cases were registered against him at Pasra police station.
