HYDERABAD: The Praja Rajyam on Friday alleged that phones used by its leaders were being tapped.

The party said complaints would be lodged with President Pratibha Patil and Governor N.D. Tiwari, once they gathered enough evidence.

At a press conference, party spokesman Parakala Prabhakar replied to a question as to how information about telephone conversations between Allu Aravind, film producer and brother-in-law of PR president K. Chiranjeevi, and TRS legislator T. Harish Rao were leaked to the media.

“We strongly believe that our phones are being tapped by intelligence agencies. We will surely take it up with the President and Governor”, he said, adding that across the State, people working for PR, were being harassed by the police.

A case in point was how people, conducting a survey in coastal Andhra following the ‘Praja Ankitha Yatra’ by Chiranjeevi, were allegedly asked by police to desist from doing so.

Every unprovoked reaction towards the PR by either the ruling or the Opposition parties were indicators that they were getting jittery, the party leaders said, citing the example of Chiranjeevi’s visit to Sircilla or to Polepalli in Mahabubnagar district.

For that matter, parties like the Telugu Desam, coming up with specific policy announcements on a separate State also, followed the leader’s views made public at the Tirupati meeting.
